    SEE ALSO...

SMIT Antibody (3A6) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects SMIT protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-SMIT antibody (3A6) is available as the non-conjugated form. SMIT protein, encoded by the SLC5A3 gene located on chromosome 21q22.12, plays a crucial role in cellular regulation by facilitating myo-inositol uptake, a molecule essential for various cellular processes including membrane structure, signal transduction, and osmoregulation. SMIT protein helps maintain intracellular concentrations of myo-inositol, which is vital for cellular homeostasis, especially under hypertonic stress conditions where activity increases. SMIT protein is expressed in several human tissues, including brain, kidney, and placenta, with notable abundance in fetal brain and spinal cord, while expression diminishes in adult brain except in choroid plexus. SMIT protein localizes to basolateral membranes of thick ascending limb of Henle and inner medullary collecting duct, highlighting significance in renal function. Impaired SMIT function has been linked to diabetes and Down syndrome pathogenesis, making SMIT protein a critical target for research and therapeutic interventions.

Can you confirm that sc-29330 targets SMIT1 protein (encoded by SLC5A3 gene) only, and not the other inositol transporters, SMIT2 or HMIT.

    Asked by: Jogo
Thank you for your question. This mouse monoclonal antibody does target SMIT1 protein, encoded by SLC5A3 gene. We have not specifically tested it for potential cross-reactivity with other inositol transporters.

For Western Blot, is it recommended to use denatured or non-denatured conditions with SMIT (3A6): sc-293330 antibody?

    Asked by: DefinitelyNotMatt
Thank you for your question. We recommend this antibody for use in denatured Western Blot conditions. It has not been validated for use in non-denatured conditions. Please contact our Technical Service Department for further details or inquiries.
