SLC5A12 Antibody (H-4) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects SLC5A12 of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). anti-SLC5A12 antibody (H-4) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. SLC5A12, also known as SMCT2, is a 618 amino acid multi-pass membrane protein that belongs to the sodium:solute symporter family. SLC5A12 plays a crucial role in the transport of monocarboxylates, such as short-chain fatty acids, lactate, nicotinate, and pyruvate, which are essential for cellular metabolism and energy production. SLC5A12 is particularly important in the proximal tubule of the kidney and the small intestine, where SLC5A12 facilitates the reabsorption of these metabolites from the lumen, thereby influencing nutrient absorption and waste elimination. Additionally, SLC5A12 is implicated in retinal function and is notably inhibited by nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen, fenoprofen, and ketoprofen, which can affect transport activity. The gene encoding SLC5A12 is located on human chromosome 11p14.2 and exists in two alternatively spliced isoforms, highlighting potential regulatory complexity and functional diversity in various tissues.
