Shigella dysenteriae Antibody (0911) is a mouse monoclonal IgG3 kappa light chain antibody that detects the Shigella dysenteriae protein of Shigella dysenteriae origin by western blotting (WB) and immunofluorescence (IF). Anti-Shigella dysenteriae antibody (0911) is available as a non-conjugated format. Shigella dysenteriae is a Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, facultatively anaerobic, non-motile bacterium that is a significant pathogen in the human gastrointestinal tract, known for causing shigellosis, or bacillary dysentery, which can be particularly severe due to the production of Shiga toxin. Shiga toxin is critical for understanding the pathogenicity of Shigella dysenteriae, as Shiga toxin inhibits protein synthesis in host cells, leading to cell death and severe gastrointestinal symptoms. Shiga toxin consists of two subunits: the A subunit, which is responsible for the enzymatic activity that disrupts ribosomal function, and the B subunit, which facilitates the binding of Shiga toxin to specific glycolipids on the surface of host cells, particularly globotriaosylceramide. The interaction between Shiga toxin and host cells underscores the importance of studying Shigella dysenteriae, as this interaction reveals potential therapeutic targets and informs public health strategies to combat the spread of this pathogen, which is primarily transmitted through contaminated food and water.
