SEA Antibody (S2) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a antibody that detects Staphylococcus enterotoxin A (SEA) of Staphylococcus aureus by western blotting (WB). Anti-SEA antibody (S2) plays a crucial role in research related to foodborne illnesses caused by Staphylococcus aureus, as SEA is a potent superantigen that can lead to severe immune responses, including toxic shock syndrome. SEA is secreted by the bacteria and activates T cells by binding to class II major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules, which results in the excessive production of cytokines such as interleukin-2. SEA′s structure, characterized by a single-chain polypeptide configuration and a disulfide bond formed by two half cystines, is essential for biological activity, as this configuration maintains stability and enables effective interaction with immune cells. Understanding SEA′s structure and function is vital for developing therapeutic strategies to mitigate the effects of food poisoning and related diseases.
