Saposin C Antibody (A-3) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects saposin C protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-saposin C antibody (A-3) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Saposin C is a member of the saposin family, which consists of four structurally related proteins—saposin A, B, C, and D—that are derived from the precursor protein prosaposin. The saposins play a crucial role in lipid metabolism, particularly in the lysosomal degradation of glycosphingolipids. Saposin C specifically interacts with glucosylceramidase, enhancing its activity and facilitating the breakdown of glucosylceramide into glucose and ceramide. This function is vital for maintaining cellular lipid homeostasis, and defects in saposin C can lead to Gaucher′s disease, a genetic disorder characterized by the accumulation of glucosylceramide in various tissues, resulting in severe health complications. The gene encoding human prosaposin is located on chromosome 10, and post-translational modifications, including glycosylation and proteolytic cleavage, are essential for generating active saposin forms.
