RBP Antibody (C-4) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects RBP of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). RBP Antibody (C-4) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Retinol-binding protein (RBP), also known as plasma retinol-binding protein (PRBP) or RBP4, plays a crucial role in transporting retinol (Vitamin A) from the liver to peripheral tissues, which is essential for maintaining proper cellular function and vision. As a member of the lipocalin family, RBP binds to transthyretin (TTR) in plasma, forming a stable complex that prevents renal filtration of low molecular weight RBP, thereby ensuring adequate retinol delivery to tissues. The molar ratio of RBP to TTR can serve as an indirect indicator of vitamin A status, with imbalances suggesting deficiencies that can impair cellular processes, particularly in epidermal cells. Recent research has linked elevated RBP levels in adipose tissue to insulin resistance, suggesting potential involvement in type 2 diabetes and obesity development, highlighting RBP′s importance beyond traditional transport functions.
