Rabies Virus Antibody (5B12) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a antibody that detects Rabies Virus by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) applications. Rabies Virus is a neurotropic lyssavirus belonging to the Rhabdoviridae family, characterized by its single-stranded, negative-sense RNA genome that encodes five essential proteins, including a glycoprotein and a nucleoprotein. The glycoprotein plays a crucial role in viral infection of host cells by facilitating attachment and entry into the host′s central nervous system, leading to severe neurological consequences. The mature virus exhibits a distinctive bullet shape, with a protein coat enveloped in a lipid membrane, and is adorned with glycoprotein projections that are vital for infectivity. The structure of Rabies Virus, averaging approximately 780 nm in length, is designed to evade host immune response, making Rabies Virus a highly successful pathogen with a wide range of susceptible hosts. Each year, Rabies Virus causes approximately 50,000 human deaths, underscoring the importance of understanding viral biology and developing effective diagnostic tools, such as anti-Rabies Virus antibody (5B12), to combat this deadly virus.
