PPEF-1 Antibody (SW-67) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects the PPEF-1 protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-PPEF-1 antibody (SW-67) is available as the non-conjugated form. PPEF-1, also known as protein protease with EF-hand motifs 1, plays a crucial role as a serine/threonine protein phosphatase, which is essential for various cellular processes, including signal transduction and cellular regulation. PPEF-1 is predominantly expressed in the brain, with particularly high levels observed in fetal brain tissue, as well as in sensory neurons of the dorsal root ganglia and cranial ganglia derived from neural crest cells. This expression pattern suggests a vital role for PPEF-1 in the development and function of the nervous system, particularly in sensory processing. The gene encoding PPEF-1 is located on human chromosome Xp22.2-p22.1 and is highly homologous to the Drosophila retinal degeneration gene C (rdgC), which is critical for preventing light-induced retinal degeneration. While the loss of rdgC function in Drosophila leads to retinal degeneration, studies have shown that the elimination of PPEF function does not result in similar degeneration in vertebrates, indicating a divergence in the functional roles of these homologous proteins across species.
