Plectin Antibody (1A2): sc-33650

Plectin Antibody (1A2) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects plectin in mouse and rat samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Plectin is a crucial cytoskeletal protein that plays a significant role in maintaining cellular integrity by crosslinking intermediate filaments to microtubules and microfilaments, as well as anchoring these filaments to the plasma and nuclear membranes. This structural support is vital for cellular stability and resilience, particularly in tissues that experience mechanical stress. Plectin′s interactions with other proteins, such as Lamin B and vimentin, are essential for its function, and these interactions are modulated by various protein kinases through phosphorylation. For instance, phosphorylation by protein kinase A (PKA) or protein kinase C (PKC) can reduce plectin′s binding affinity for Lamin B, while PKA-mediated phosphorylation enhances its interaction with vimentin. Additionally, plectin is a substrate for p34cdc2 kinase, highlighting its involvement in cell cycle regulation. The existence of several alternative splice isoforms of plectin further underscores its functional diversity. Mutations in human plectin have been linked to epidermolysis bullosa simplex with muscular dystrophy (EBS-MD), illustrating plectin′s critical role in human health.
