PIG-A Antibody (H-6) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects PIG-A protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). PIG-A (H-6) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. PIG-A protein is a critical component of the glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchor biosynthesis pathway, functioning as an endoplasmic reticulum transmembrane protein that plays a vital role in the synthesis of N-acetylglucosaminyl-phosphatidylinositol (GlcNAc-PI), an essential early intermediate in this process. The structure of PIG-A features a large cytoplasmic domain that shares homology with the bacterial GlcNAc transferase RfaK, which is crucial for enzymatic activity, and a small lumenal domain that facilitates localization to the rough endoplasmic reticulum. PIG-A interacts with several other proteins, including PIG-C, PIG-H, PIG-P, PIG-Q, and DPM2, and has a direct interaction with PIG-Y, forming part of the GPI transamidase complex that is essential for recognizing the GPI attachment signal. Defects in the PIG-A gene can lead to paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH), a serious hematologic disorder characterized by the destruction of red blood cells.
