Pentylenetetrazole causes alterations in excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmitter systems. It is believed to act on the GABA-A receptor, which is a type of ionotropic receptor found in the brain. It is thought to bind to the receptor and block the chloride channel, leading to an increase in the excitability of neurons.
