SEE ALSO...

Pannexin-1 (D-12) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects human Pannexin-1 by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Pannexin-1 (D-12) antibody is available non-conjugated and in multiple conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and various Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Gap junctions are formed by hexameric protein groups called connexins for transporting low molecular weight proteins between cells. Connexins, present in all metazoan organisms, serve diverse functions from controlling cell growth and differentiation to conducting electricity in excitable tissues. Several mammalian cells with malignant phenotypes show decreased connexin expression and gap junction communication. The pannexin gene family encodes a second class of putative gap junction proteins. Pannexins are highly conserved in invertebrates and mammals, highlighting their importance in gap junctional coupling function. Mammalian Pannexin-1 and Pannexin-3 share close relations, while Pannexin-2 is more distantly related. Pannexin-1 is a transmembrane protein forming calcium-permeable gap junctions between adjacent cells and in the endoplasmic reticulum. In erythrocytes, Pannexin-1 forms a mechanosensitive ATP-permeable channel in the nonjunctional plasma membrane.
