SEE ALSO...

Orf Virus Antibody (6E8) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a kappa light chain antibody that detects the Orf Virus protein of various species by western blotting (WB) and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-Orf Virus antibody (6E8) is available as a non-conjugated format. The Orf virus, a member of the Poxviridae family and belonging to the parapoxvirus genus, is characterized by its large, oval double-stranded DNA structure and unique spiral coat, which sets it apart from other poxviruses. Notably, the Orf virus exhibits surface tubules that form intricate crisscross patterns, which can be visualized through electron microscopy in negatively stained preparations. This virus is primarily known for its impact on sheep and goats, where it causes lesions such as papules and pustules on the lips and muzzle. In humans, particularly those in farming communities or meat handling professions, Orf virus infection can lead to reddish, weeping nodules on the hands and fingers, occasionally affecting lymph nodes. While Orf infections are generally self-limiting and benign, they can pose significant risks to immunocompromised individuals, making the study of this virus and its interactions crucial for understanding zoonotic transmission and developing effective treatments.
