Nova-1 Antibody (512Y) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a kappa light chain antibody that detects Nova-1 protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Nova-1 (512Y) antibody is available as the non-conjugated anti-Nova-1 monoclonal isotype antibody. Nova-1 protein plays a crucial role in the regulation of neuron-specific alternative splicing, particularly of the glycine receptor α2 pre-mRNA, which is essential for proper synaptic function and neurotransmission in the central nervous system. This regulation influences the excitatory and inhibitory balance in neuronal circuits, impacting processes such as motor control and sensory processing. Nova-1 and Nova-2 are part of a superfamily of RNA-binding proteins typically localized in the nucleus, where these proteins interact with RNA to modulate gene expression. These proteins are also expressed in systemic tumors associated with the autoimmune disorder paraneoplastic opsoclonus-myoclonus ataxia (POMA), highlighting Nova-1′s potential role in both normal physiology and pathological conditions. Nova-1 is predominantly found in the hindbrain and ventral spinal cord, while Nova-2 is expressed in the neocortex and hippocampus, underscoring the distinct yet complementary functions of these proteins in the nervous system.
