Mucin 6 Antibody (CLH5) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects Mucin 6 protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP). Anti-Mucin 6 antibody (CLH5) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Mucin 6, also known as MUC 6 or gastric mucin, is a large glycoprotein that plays a crucial role in protecting the gastrointestinal tract by forming a protective mucus barrier. Mucin 6 is primarily located in the stomach and gall bladder, with lower levels found in the terminal ileum and right colon, highlighting its importance in maintaining the integrity of the gastrointestinal lining. Notably, Mucin 6 is associated with Lewis type 2 in normal gastric tissue, and expression can be altered in conditions such as gastric cancer and chronic inflammation. Mucin 6 presence in the deeper mucosal folds of the human gall bladder suggests a role in mucosal defense, while transient expression in the nephrogenic zone of the kidney during early development indicates a potential role in renal function. Furthermore, in diseased liver, proliferating bile ductular cells express Mucin 6 apomucin, particularly in chronic viral hepatitis, suggesting that this secreted mucin may act as a cytoprotective agent, representing a reactive biliary epithelium phenotype.
