SEE ALSO...

Mucin 5B Antibody (5B#19-2E) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects Mucin 5B (MUC5B) of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and immunofluorescence (IF). Anti-MUC5B antibody (5B#19-2E) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. MUC5B is a high molecular weight glycoprotein that plays a crucial role in forming protective mucus layers in various tissues, particularly in the respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts. MUC5B functions to trap pathogens and particulate matter, serving as a first line of defense against infections and maintaining mucosal integrity. MUC5B is predominantly expressed in the gallbladder and colon, and expression significantly increases in response to chronic inflammation, particularly in the middle ear, where secretion increases during disease states. MUC5B is also implicated in gastric cancer, where expression is regulated by a distal promoter influenced by protein kinase C activity and methylation status. MUC5B expression is further modulated by retinoic acid, which is essential for mucous differentiation, highlighting MUC5B′s importance in both normal physiology and disease processes.
