Mucin 4 Antibody (1G8) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects Mucin 4 protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP). Mucin 4 (1G8) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Mucin 4 is a critical membrane-bound glycoprotein that plays a significant role in cell signaling and protection of epithelial surfaces. Mucin 4 consists of two subunits: Mucin 4α, a large amino mucin type subunit, and Mucin 4β, a transmembrane subunit containing three epidermal growth factor-like domains. These domains facilitate interactions with various signaling molecules, influencing cellular processes such as proliferation and differentiation. Mucin 4 is predominantly expressed in normal urothelium and is also found in other tissues, including trachea, lung, and testis. Dysregulation of Mucin 4 expression is associated with pancreatic tumors, where Mucin 4 is upregulated through the retinoic acid receptor-α signaling pathway, with TGFβ2 acting as an interim mediator. The Mucin 4 gene undergoes alternative splicing, resulting in at least 12 splice variants classified into secreted and membrane-associated types, further underscoring Mucin 4′s complexity and importance in both normal physiology and disease states.
