MTP Antibody (D-4) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b antibody that detects microsomal triglyceride transfer protein (MTP) in mouse, rat, and human samples through various applications including western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-MTP antibody (D-4) plays a crucial role in understanding lipid metabolism, as MTP is essential for the transport of cholesteryl esters, triglycerides, and phospholipids between phospholipid surfaces, facilitating the secretion of plasma lipoproteins that contain apolipoprotein B. MTP is a heterodimer composed of MTP and protein disulfide isomerase (PDI) and is primarily localized in the endoplasmic reticulum, with significant expression in the small intestine and liver, as well as in the kidney, testis, and ovary, but notably absent in epithelial cells. MTP regulation is tightly controlled; insulin negatively regulates MTP while cholesterol levels positively influence MTP, highlighting its importance in maintaining lipid homeostasis. Defects in the MTP gene can lead to abetalipoproteinemia, an autosomal recessive disorder that disrupts lipoprotein metabolism, underscoring the significance of MTP in human health. MTP monoclonal antibody (D-4) is an invaluable tool for researchers investigating lipid transport and related metabolic disorders.
