Moexipril is a potent inhibitor to the angiotensin converting enzyme, blocking the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II. Moexipril in addition, has cardioprotective effects mediated through a combination of angiotensin II inhibition and bradykinin proliferation. The proliferation of bradykinin stimulates the production of prstaglandin E2 and nitric oxide.
