SEE ALSO...

MK Antibody (A-9) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects MK protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-MK antibody (A-9) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Midkine, or MK, is a heparin-binding growth factor that plays a crucial role in regulating growth and differentiation during embryogenesis, making MK essential for proper development. MK protein is primarily located in the extracellular matrix and is secreted by various cell types, which facilitates cell signaling and interaction with other growth factors. MK expression is tightly controlled during embryonic development, influenced by steroid receptors of the retinoic acid superfamily, and MK′s mature form consists of 118 amino acids with five intrachain disulfide bonds. Notably, MK′s carboxy-terminus harbors the principal heparin-binding site and neurite-promoting sequences, both vital for neurotrophic properties. Additionally, MK has been implicated in various pathological conditions, including an association with colon adenocarcinoma in families with familial polyposis, and MK enhances plasminogen activator activity, underscoring MK′s importance in both developmental biology and disease processes.
