MerTK Antibody (348) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects MerTK in human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB) and immunoprecipitation (IP). MerTK, also known as c-Mer, is a vital member of the Mer/Axl/Tyro3 receptor kinase family and consists of 984 amino acids, featuring one tyrosine kinase domain, two Fibronectin type-III domains, and two immunoglobulin-like C2-type domains. MerTK is crucial for various physiological processes, including macrophage activation, platelet aggregation, and efficient clearance of apoptotic cells, which is essential for maintaining tissue homeostasis and preventing autoimmune responses. Notably, MerTK plays a significant role in the phagocytic process of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE), where MerTK acts as a signaling molecule that triggers the ingestion of outer segments. The interaction of MerTK with phosphatidylinositol-specific phospholipase C γ2 (PI-PLC γ2) is particularly important, as this interaction facilitates the signaling cascade necessary for effective phagocytosis. Mutations in the MerTK gene can disrupt this pathway, leading to conditions such as autosomal recessive retinitis pigmentosa, which results in the degeneration of retinal photoreceptor cells and subsequent vision loss. With these critical functions and implications in disease, anti-MerTK antibody (348) serves as an invaluable tool for researchers studying cellular processes and potential therapeutic targets in human health.
