SEE ALSO...

MaxiKβ Antibody (A-5) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects MaxiKβ protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-MaxiKβ antibody (A-5) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. The KCNMB1 gene, located on chromosome 5q35.1, encodes the 191 amino-acid MaxiKβ subunit 1, which is crucial for forming calcium-activated potassium channels. MaxiKβ subunit 1 features two putative transmembrane domains and an extracellular loop with three consensus sequences for N-linked glycosylation, as well as four cysteine residues that may form disulfide bridges, contributing to structural integrity and function. MaxiKβ subunit 1 is predominantly expressed in smooth muscle tissue but is also present in the brain, liver, and lymphatic tissues, where MaxiKβ subunit 1 plays a vital role in modulating MaxiKα subunit activity. The interaction between MaxiKβ and MaxiKα enhances channel sensitivity to calcium and voltage, making the α/β1 channel the most responsive of all Maxi channels to calcium levels. This sensitivity is essential for proper vasoregulation, as MaxiKβ allows for precise control of arterial relaxation, thereby influencing blood flow and pressure.
