Islet-2 Antibody (203C5a) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b antibody that detects Islet-2 in human samples through western blotting (WB) and immunoprecipitation (IP) applications. Islet-2 is a crucial nuclear protein composed of 359 amino acids, encoded by the human gene ISL2, and plays a significant role as a transcription factor in motor neuron development. Islet-2 features two N-terminal LIM domains, a homeodomain, and a serine/glutamine/threonine-rich C-terminus, which are essential for defining subclasses of motor neurons that organize into distinct columns within the spinal cord and select specific axon pathways. Islet-2 expression initially occurs in all postmitotic spinal motor neurons before differentiation into somatic and visceral neuronal fates. Somatic motor neurons retain Islet-2 expression during later embryonic stages, while visceral motor neurons require an early phase of Islet-2 expression for full character development. Mutations diminishing or abolishing both Islet-1 and Islet-2 activity can lead to severe defects in visceral motor neuron generation and compromised somatic motor neuron identity. Anti-Islet-2 antibody (203C5a) serves as an invaluable tool for researchers studying motor neuron development and related pathologies.
