IgM Fab fragment Antibody (5E673) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b kappa light chain antibody that detects IgM Fab fragment protein of human origin by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-IgM Fab fragment antibody (5E673) is available as a non-conjugated format. Immunoglobulin M (IgM) plays a crucial role in immune response as the first antibody produced by B cells upon encountering an antigen, making IgM essential for early defense against infections. Structurally, IgM exists as a pentamer, consisting of five monomeric units linked together, enhancing IgM′s ability to bind multiple antigens simultaneously. This pentameric form enables a stronger and more effective immune response through cross-linking pathogens and facilitating pathogen clearance. IgM predominantly exists in serum but also functions as a secretory immunoglobulin, providing protection at mucosal surfaces. Monovalent Fab fragments derived from IgM have two antigen-binding sites, enabling versatile applications in research, such as sterically covering immunoglobulin surfaces for double labeling primary antibodies from the same host species or blocking endogenous immunoglobulins in various assays. This functionality enables accurate and reliable results in immunological studies.
