ICA69 Antibody (LIV3D3) is a mouse monoclonal IgM kappa antibody that detects ICA69 protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP). ICA69 protein, also known as islet cell autoantigen 1, plays a crucial role in the immune response related to diabetes, serving as an environmental trigger that can induce autoimmunity against insulin-producing pancreatic islet cells. Understanding ICA69 function is vital, as ICA69 presence can lead to the activation of autoreactive T cells, which are implicated in the destruction of these essential cells, ultimately resulting in type 1 diabetes. The human ICA1 gene, which encodes ICA69 protein, is located on chromosome 7p22 and produces three transcript variants, with one variant containing the T cell epitope recognized by autoreactive T cells in diabetic children. ICA69 transcript is predominantly expressed in the pancreas, brain, and heart, while lower levels are found in the lung, liver, thyroid, and kidney, highlighting ICA69′s significance in both endocrine function and potential implications in neuroendocrine signaling.
