In adult mice, Hel308 expression is restricted to primary spermatocytes within the seminiferous tubules of the testis, while the mus308 gene in D. melanogaster encodes a protein that exhibits structural features characteristic of both DNA polymerases and helicases, suggesting a broader role in DNA repair mechanisms beyond crosslink repair.
