HBTU is a commonly used coupling reagent, and can be used in solid phase peptide synthesis. It is reported to convert carboxylic acids into azides efficiently and practically. This process may be used with a wide range of carboxylic acids including N-protected amino acids. It has also been reported to be useful in one-pot synthesis of dipeptidyl urea esters, ureas, and carbamates from acids.
