Hairy Antibody (1/24) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects Hairy protein of Drosophila melanogaster origin by western blotting (WB). Anti-Hairy antibody (1/24) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Hairy protein, a 377-amino acid pair-rule protein, plays a crucial role in embryonic segmentation and adult bristle patterning by repressing transcription. This transcriptional repression ensures correct spatial and temporal expression of target genes during embryogenesis. Hairy (1/24) antibody achieves function by forming a complex with corepressors, which is essential for activity. Hairy protein localizes to nuclei of cells in eight distinct regions of early embryo, allowing precise regulation of gene expression in these critical developmental stages. Hairy protein is not expressed in embryonic nervous system, highlighting specific role in segmentation rather than neural development. Hairy protein contains a domain similar to proto-oncogene N-myc, which may facilitate protein dimerization and/or DNA binding, further underscoring importance in gene regulation. Hairy protein plays a role in repressing normal spatial expression of Fushi tarazu, another pair-rule protein, thereby contributing to intricate network of gene interactions that govern Drosophila development.
