Glycophorin A Antibody (H-12) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b antibody that detects Glycophorin A in human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Glycophorin A is a crucial sialoglycoprotein located in the human erythrocyte membrane, where Glycophorin A plays a significant role in maintaining the structural integrity of red blood cells and facilitating cell-cell interactions. Glycophorin A spans the membrane once, with its amino-terminal end exposed to the extracellular environment, which is essential for Glycophorin A′s function in defining blood group phenotypes through antigenic determinants. The Glycophorin A gene, located on chromosome 4q31.21, consists of seven exons and encodes a 150 amino acid protein that is 97% homologous to Glycophorin B, highlighting the evolutionary relationship between these proteins. The presence of Glycophorin A on the erythrocyte surface is vital not only for blood group classification but also for the prevention of hemolytic disease, making Glycophorin A an important target for both clinical diagnostics and research applications. Anti-Glycophorin A antibody (H-12) is an invaluable tool for studying erythrocyte biology and the underlying mechanisms of blood group antigen expression.
