Ep-CAM Antibody (G8.8) is a rat monoclonal IgG2a antibody that detects Ep-CAM protein of mouse origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and immunohistochemistry. Ep-CAM (G8.8) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates, providing versatility for different experimental needs. The epithelial cell adhesion molecule, also known as tumor-associated calcium signal transducer 1 and MK-1, plays a crucial role in cell-cell adhesion and is predominantly expressed in normal epithelial tissues as well as in various carcinomas. Ep-CAM protein is located on the cell membrane, where Ep-CAM facilitates the adhesion of epithelial cells, which is vital for maintaining tissue integrity and function. Notably, aberrant expression of Ep-CAM is associated with tumor progression and metastasis, making Ep-CAM a significant biomarker for cancer diagnosis and a potential therapeutic target. The human Ep-CAM gene encodes a 314 amino acid protein that exists in two forms, with the major form being more prevalent; this expression can be modulated by glycosylation processes, such as those inhibited by tunicamycin. The structure of Ep-CAM includes an extracellular domain with two epidermal growth factor-like repeats, followed by a cysteine-poor region essential for its adhesive properties, underscoring Ep-CAM′s importance in both normal physiology and pathological conditions.
