SEE ALSO...

EMP-3 Antibody (SW-5) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects EMP-3 protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-EMP-3 antibody (SW-5) is available as the non-conjugated format. EMP-3, also known as epithelial membrane protein 3 or YMP, is a 163 amino acid multi-pass membrane protein characterized by two N-linked glycosylation sites and four transmembrane domains. EMP-3 is predominantly expressed in peripheral blood leukocytes and plays a crucial role in cell-cell interactions and cell proliferation, which are vital for maintaining tissue homeostasis and immune responses. Notably, EMP-3 has been implicated as a potential tumor suppressor, as EMP-3 can silence CpG promoter activity, thereby inhibiting the growth of neuroblastomas and gliomas. However, overexpression of EMP-3 has been associated with the development of oligodendroglial tumors, which arise from the myelin-producing cells of the central nervous system. The dual role of EMP-3 in both repressing and promoting tumor formation highlights EMP-3′s importance in cancer biology, suggesting that while normal levels may help to keep tumor activity in check, elevated expression could contribute to carcinogenesis.

Can sc-81797: EMP-3 (SW-5) monoclonal antibody be used to stain formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue sections?

Asked by: cjMara
Thank you for your question. Yes, sc-81797: EMP-3 (SW-5) is recommended for use in IHC with paraffin-embedded sections. We recommend performing antigen retrieval with sodium citrate buffer (pH 6) and heat. The full protocol can be found here: https://www.scbt.com/scbt/resources/protocols/immunoperoxidase-staining
