Eg5 Antibody (10C7/Eg5) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects KIF11 in mouse, rat, and human samples through western blotting (WB) and immunoprecipitation (IP) applications. Anti-KIF11 antibody (10C7/Eg5) plays a crucial role in studying KIF11, a vital microtubule-based motor protein essential for bipolar spindle formation during eukaryotic cell division. KIF11, also known as kinesin family member 11 or Eg5, is a member of the BimC kinesin family and is characterized by slow, plus-end-directed motility along microtubules. Proper functioning of KIF11 is critical, as KIF11 facilitates centrosome movement, ensuring accurate chromosome segregation during mitosis. Disruption of KIF11 expression leads to halting of centrosome migration and results in cells being arrested in mitosis with monoastral microtubule arrays, which can have significant implications for cell proliferation and cancer research. Additionally, KIF11 undergoes post-translational modifications, including phosphorylation on serine during S phase and on both serine and threonine 927 during mitosis, which are essential for regulating KIF11′s interaction with the spindle apparatus, particularly during early prophase. Understanding these modifications and their effects on KIF11′s function can provide insights into mechanisms of cell division and potential development of therapeutic strategies targeting mitotic processes in various diseases.
