Cytochrome c Antibody (6H2) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody raised against full-length rat cytochrome c, reacting with mouse, rat, and human proteins. Cytochrome c, also known as CYCS, is a small heme protein located in the mitochondrial intermembrane space and plays a pivotal role in the electron transport chain of oxidative phosphorylation by transferring electrons between Complex III (cytochrome bc1 complex) and Complex IV (cytochrome c oxidase). This electron transfer is essential for ATP production in aerobic organisms, making cytochrome c vital for cellular energy metabolism. Upon release into the cytosol, cytochrome c interacts with apoptotic protease activating factor-1 (Apaf-1) to form the apoptosome, leading to the activation of caspase-9 and downstream effector caspases like caspase-3. Release of cytochrome c is regulated by Bcl-2 family proteins, such as Bcl-2, which inhibits release, and Bax, which promotes release, highlighting importance in cell death regulation. Interactions with these proteins are crucial for understanding mechanisms underlying apoptosis and related diseases like cancer and neurodegenerative disorders. Cytochrome c monoclonal antibody (6H2) is suitable for applications including western blotting, immunoprecipitation, flow cytometry (FCM), and ELISA, providing a valuable tool for researchers studying mitochondrial function, energy metabolism, and apoptotic pathways. Cytochrome c (6H2) antibody aids in exploring protein interactions and roles in cellular processes essential for life and disease progression.

Can the 6H2 clone be used for immunohistochemistry on mouse tissue?

Asked by: cjMara
The 6H2 clone is not recommended for IHC(P). A much better alternative for detection of cytochrome c in formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue sections is our alternate clone, cytochrome c Antibody (A-8): sc-13156.
