QUICK LINKS

Clofibric acid is a compound that reduces cholesterol levels in blood through diminishing the activity of NADPH. In vitro experiments have demonstrated that its mode of action is to competitively inhibit NADPH by effecting the rate of substrate synthesis and substrate affinity. The compounds effects are also attributed to activation of PPARα and weak activation of both PPARγ and PPARδ.
