claudin-2 Antibody (3F1) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a kappa light chain antibody that detects claudin-2 protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). anti-claudin-2 antibody (3F1) is available as a non-conjugated format. Claudin-2, also known as CLDN2 or SP82, is a 230 amino acid multi-pass membrane protein that plays a critical role in forming and maintaining tight junctions, which regulate paracellular permeability and maintain cell polarity. Located at cell junctions, claudin-2 is a key component of the claudin superfamily, consisting of structurally related proteins that contribute to epithelial and endothelial barrier integrity. Claudin-2 can form both homopolymers and heteropolymers with other claudin family members, facilitating calcium-independent cell adhesion necessary for tight junction-specific obliteration of intercellular space. Dysregulation of claudin-2 expression has been implicated in various diseases, including lung cancer, colorectal cancer, gastrointestinal carcinomas, and inflammatory bowel disease, highlighting claudin-2′s importance in cell adhesion and tissue integrity. The gene encoding claudin-2 is located on human chromosome X, which encompasses nearly 153 million base pairs and contains over 1,000 genes, further underscoring claudin-2′s significance in cellular functions and disease mechanisms.
