claudin-19 Antibody (C-5) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects claudin-19 protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). claudin-19 (C-5) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. claudin-19, a 224 amino acid multi-pass membrane protein, plays a crucial role in forming tight junctions, which are essential for maintaining epithelial and endothelial barrier integrity. These tight junctions regulate paracellular transport, ensuring selective permeability and maintaining homeostasis within tissues. claudin-19 is particularly important in the renal system, where anti-claudin-19 antibody (C-5) contributes to ion transport regulation and is involved in hypomagnesemia renal with ocular involvement (HOMGO), a condition caused by defects in the gene encoding claudin-19. HOMGO is characterized by low magnesium levels, high calcium excretion, and kidney calcification, highlighting claudin-19′s significance in renal health. claudin-19 expression is tightly regulated and varies across different tissues, underscoring claudin-19′s potential as a biomarker for various diseases and importance in therapeutic applications.

Can claudin-19 (C-5): sc-365967 monoclonal antibody be used to stain formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue sections?

Asked by: Professor Griffin
Thank you for your question. Yes, claudin-19 (C-5): sc-365967 has been validated for use in IHC with paraffin-embedded sections. We recommend performing antigen retrieval with sodium citrate buffer (pH 6) and heat. The full protocol can be found here: https://www.scbt.com/scbt/resources/protocols/immunoperoxidase-staining
