CD133 Antibody (E-11) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects CD133 protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-CD133 antibody (E-11) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. CD133, also known as PROM1 or Prominin-1, is a pentaspan transmembrane glycoprotein that plays a crucial role in maintaining and regulating stem cell populations. CD133 is predominantly expressed on primitive hematopoietic stem cells, progenitor cells, retinoblastoma cells, hemangioblasts, and neural stem cells, as well as in developing epithelial tissues. CD133′s unique structure, which includes an extracellular N-terminus, two short intracellular loops, two large extracellular loops, and an intracellular C-terminus, is essential for cellular signaling and membrane organization. CD133 is implicated in forming plasma membrane protrusions, which are critical for proper retinal cell functioning, as these protrusions facilitate the shedding of photoreceptive membranes that are subsequently phagocytosed by the retinal pigment epithelium. This process is vital for maintaining retinal health and may be linked to inherited retinal degenerations, making CD133 a significant marker for research in stem cell biology and retinal diseases. CD133 gene is located on chromosome 4p15.32 and encodes an 865 amino acid protein, underscoring its importance in both developmental biology and potential therapeutic applications.
