CAP-18 Antibody (H7) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects CAP-18 protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and flow cytometry (FCM). CAP-18 (H7) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. CAP-18, also known as FALL-39 peptide antibiotic, cationic anti-microbial protein, CAMP, or HSD26, is a 170 amino acid precursor that undergoes proteolytic processing to generate the active antibacterial peptide LL-37. LL-37 is crucial for innate immune response, playing a significant role in the first line of defense against microbial infections. Unlike defensins, which are characterized by cysteine-rich structure and β-pleated sheet conformation, LL-37 is unique in being cysteine-free and adopting an amphipathic α-helical structure, allowing effective interaction with bacterial lipopolysaccharides (LPS). This interaction not only neutralizes pathogens but also serves as a potent chemotactic factor, recruiting immune cells such as mast cells to sites of inflammation. While LL-37 is elevated in various inflammatory skin conditions, including psoriasis and dermatitis, LL-37 is absent in normal epidermal tissue, highlighting potential as a biomarker for inflammatory diseases.
