SEE ALSO...

β-Gal Antibody (B-12) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a kappa light chain antibody that detects beta-Gal protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). β-Gal (B-12) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. The human β-galactosidase gene, known as the LacZ gene, is located on chromosome 3p21.33 and encodes a 677 amino acid protein that functions optimally within a pH range of 6 to 8. β-galactosidase plays a crucial role in hydrolyzing terminal galactose residues from glycoproteins and glycolipids, which is essential for various biological processes, including cellular signaling and metabolism. β-galactosidase enzymatic activity is particularly important in lysosomal storage disorders, where deficiency can lead to toxic substrate accumulation. β-galactosidase exists as a tetramer, with each subunit containing an active site capable of independently catalyzing galactose cleavage, and monovalent cations can enhance enzymatic activity. The LacZ gene serves as a reporter gene in molecular biology, enabling researchers to visualize gene expression through colored or fluorescent compounds from substrates like X-gal, which produces a blue color. This versatility makes anti-β-Gal antibody (B-12) an invaluable tool for studying gene expression and protein interactions in various experimental settings.

How well does it work in IF of glioma?

Asked by: anglelababay
Thank you for your question. Glioma cells in particular have not been tested, but Anti-β-Gal Antibody (B-12): sc-377257 is recommended for detection of β-Gal of mouse, rat and human origin by WB, IP, IF, IHC(P) and ELISA. If the Glioma cells you are using stem from one of these species, the antibody will be able to detect its target protein in them.

Is there a blocking peptide for this antibody?

Asked by: AbPolly
Thank you for your question. Our B-Gal sc-377257 was raised against a recombinant protein and not a short peptide sequence, so it is not possible to design a blocking peptide for it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn't work!Although worked perfectly in IF for lacZ reporter in transgenic mice it was not especific enough to be competent to give more than 1 star because the control negative had the same pattern as the sample.
