Bcl-2 Antibody (100) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects Bcl-2 protein of human origin through western blotting, immunoprecipitation, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, and flow cytometry. Bcl-2 monoclonal antibody (100) is offered in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase, phycoerythrin, fluorescein isothiocyanate, and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Bcl-2 plays a crucial role as a key regulator of apoptosis, which is vital for normal development, maintaining tissue homeostasis, and providing defense against pathogens. As an anti-apoptotic, membrane-associated oncoprotein, Bcl-2 promotes cell survival by engaging in protein-protein interactions with other members of the Bcl-2 family, including death suppressors like Bcl-xL, Mcl-1, Bcl-w, and A1, as well as death agonists such as Bax, Bak, Bik, Bad, and Bid. The anti-apoptotic activity of Bcl-2 is further modulated by post-translational modifications, including proteolytic processing and phosphorylation, which can influence function. By stabilizing the mitochondrial membrane, Bcl-2 may inhibit the activation of the cytochrome c/Apaf-1 pathway, thereby preventing apoptosis. Dysregulation of Bcl-2, often due to mutations in the Bcl-2 gene, can lead to various cancers by disrupting the normal mechanisms of programmed cell death, highlighting the importance of this protein in both cellular health and disease.
