Bassoon Antibody (SAP7F407) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a kappa light chain antibody that detects bassoon protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and immunofluorescence (IF). Anti-bassoon antibody (SAP7F407) is available as a non-conjugated format. Bassoon protein plays a critical role in the organization of the presynaptic cytomatrix, which is essential for efficient neurotransmitter release at synapses. Bassoon (SAP7F407) antibody targets a large protein predominantly located in axon terminals of hippocampal neurons, where bassoon protein is highly concentrated near the active zone, facilitating synaptic transmission. Bassoon protein works in concert with another presynaptic protein, Piccolo, to orchestrate complex events that occur at the nerve terminal, ensuring proper synaptic function. The interaction between bassoon and Piccolo is vital for maintaining structural integrity of the presynaptic compartment, and disruptions in this interaction can lead to synaptic dysfunction, which is implicated in various neurological disorders. The gene encoding bassoon is located on human chromosome 3p21.31, while the gene for Piccolo is found on chromosome 7q21.11, highlighting the importance of these proteins in the genetic landscape of synaptic biology.
