Band 3 Antibody (Q1/156) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects band 3 protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and immunofluorescence (IF). Band 3, also known as AE1, is a crucial erythrocyte membrane glycoprotein that plays a significant role in maintaining cell structural integrity and facilitating chloride and bicarbonate ion exchange across the phospholipid bilayer. Band 3′s importance lies in dual functionality, mediated by a unique structure comprising approximately 900 amino acids organized into two distinct domains. The amino-terminal domain, referred to as the cytoplasmic domain of erythrocyte membrane band 3 (cdb3), serves as an essential attachment site for the erythrocyte cytoskeleton by binding to ankyrin, providing mechanical stability to the red blood cell.
