Ataxin-3 Antibody (C-5) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects ataxin-3 in human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Ataxin-3 plays a crucial role in cellular processes, particularly in protein degradation regulation and cellular homeostasis maintenance. Ataxin-3 is primarily located in the cytoplasm under normal conditions, but during pathological states, such as in Machado-Joseph disease (MJD) or spinocerebellar ataxia type 3 (SCA3), ataxin-3 translocates to the nucleus where ataxin-3 forms ubiquitinated inclusions. This mislocalization disrupts normal cellular functions and contributes to neurodegeneration. Nuclear inclusion presence of ataxin-3 is associated with protein aggregation containing long polyglutamine tracts, which is a hallmark of several neurodegenerative disorders. Additionally, ataxin-3 interacts with the N-terminus of two human homologs of yeast DNA repair protein RAD23, HHR23A and HHR23B, which are essential for nucleotide excision repair, highlighting ataxin-3′s role in DNA repair mechanisms and potential implications in neurodegenerative diseases. Anti-ataxin-3 antibody (C-5) serves as an invaluable tool for researchers studying molecular pathways involved in these conditions and underlying mechanisms of neurodegeneration.
