SEE ALSO...

Ataxin-2 Antibody (A-6) is a mouse monoclonal IgM kappa antibody that detects Ataxin-2 protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-Ataxin-2 antibody (A-6) is available as a non-conjugated antibody. Ataxin-2 plays a crucial role in RNA metabolism and is involved in the regulation of gene expression, making Ataxin-2 essential for normal cellular function. Ataxin-2 is primarily located in the cytoplasm, particularly in Purkinje cells of the cerebellum, where Ataxin-2 participates in RNA splicing and interacts with various RNA-binding proteins. Proper localization of Ataxin-2 is vital, as disruptions can lead to neurodegenerative conditions such as spinocerebellar ataxia type 2, characterized by the degeneration of Purkinje cells and associated motor dysfunction. Ataxin-2 has been shown to interact with ataxin-2-binding-protein 1 (A2BP1), which is also expressed in muscle and brain tissues, highlighting Ataxin-2′s importance in maintaining neuronal health and function. Aggregation of Ataxin-2 due to expanded polyglutamine tracts can lead to the formation of toxic inclusions, underscoring the significance of studying Ataxin-2 in the context of neurodegenerative diseases.

Santa Cruz, I want (?) this antibody to detect human protein expressed in Drosophila. Could you send the amino acid sequence used to generate so I could check the homology to the endogenous Drosophila protein (or evaluate yourself?)

Asked by: Rudi
Thank you for your question. This monoclonal antibody is specific for an epitope mapping between amino acids 1086-1113 within an internal region of Ataxin-2 of human origin (UniProt accession number Q99700). We could not find any significant similarity with any Drosophila proteins, however, if you could contact our Technical Service and provide the Ataxin-2 Drosophila protein sequence we could perform sequence analysis for you.

What application is the blocking peptide sc-515602 P appropriate for?

Asked by: jerojero
Thank you for your question. The blocking peptide is intended for use as a negative control, by pre-adsorbing the mouse monoclonal antibody against the antigen. For full protocol details, please contact our Technical Services Department or view our online protocol here: https://www.scbt.com/scbt/resources/protocols/peptide-neutralization
