α-chimaerin Antibody (G-8) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects alpha-chimaerin protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). α-chimaerin (G-8) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Alpha-chimaerin protein, also known as N-chimaerin or rho GTPase-activating protein 2, is a member of the Rac-GAP chimaerin family and exists in two splice variants: α1 and α2. α1-chimaerin variant is particularly important as a neuron-specific and functions as a diacylglycerol-binding GTPase-activating protein for ras-related protein Rac 1. By inactivating Rac 1, α1-chimaerin plays a crucial role in regulating dendritic growth during neuronal development, which is vital for proper synaptic function and plasticity. α1-chimaerin is recruited to the plasma membrane by phospholipase Cβ-coupled cell surface receptors, leading to downstream generation of diacylglycerol. Notably, overexpression of α1-chimaerin can lead to dendritic spine retraction and loss of dendritic branches, while reduced neuronal activity down-regulates α1-chimaerin expression, promoting spine growth and dendritic branching.
