Alfuzosin hydrochloride is a uro-selective α 1 AR (adrenoceptor) antagonist that does not distinguish between α 1 subtypes. In addition, in vitro studies indicate that Alfuzosin hydrochloride can relax corpus cavernosum tissue. Also Alfuzosin hydrochloride has been seen to inhibit the increase of intraurethral pressure caused by phenylephrine. Studies suggest that isocratic reversed phase high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) with ultraviolet detection at 245 nm can be used, along with a stainless steel analytical column to determine the presence of Alfuzosin hydrochloride in solution. Furthermore, alternate studies indicate that Alfuzosin hydrochloride can be detected in human plasma using a spectrofluorimetric method which relies on measuring the native fluorescence of Alfuzosin hydrochloride in deionized water using λ excitation at 325.0 nm and λ emission at 390.0 nm along with solid phase extraction.
