melanopsin Antibody (E-12) is a mouse monoclonal IgM antibody that detects melanopsin protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). anti-melanopsin antibody (E-12) is available as the non-conjugated form. Melanopsin, a member of the opsin family, is a G protein-coupled receptor that plays a crucial role in the regulation of circadian rhythms and the pupillary light reflex. Melanopsin is primarily located in the inner retina, specifically in intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells, which are distinct from the traditional photoreceptor cells responsible for image formation. The unique localization of melanopsin allows these cells to respond to ambient light levels, thereby influencing various non-image-forming visual functions. Activation of melanopsin by light leads to a cascade of intracellular signaling events that ultimately affect physiological processes such as sleep-wake cycles and hormone release. Given its essential role in light detection and circadian regulation, melanopsin is a vital target for research into sleep disorders and other light-related health issues.
