Armadillo (β-catenin) Activators

Armadillo is the Drosophila melanogaster homolog of the vertebrate β-catenin protein. It plays a pivotal role in the Wingless (Wg) signaling pathway, which is analogous to the Wnt signaling pathway in vertebrates. Activation of the Wg/Wnt pathway stabilizes Armadillo/β-catenin, allowing it to accumulate and translocate to the nucleus, where it interacts with transcription factors to activate gene expression.

While direct activators of Armadillo/β-catenin may not be well-characterized, several small molecules that can influence the Wg/Wnt pathway and indirectly affect Armadillo/β-catenin levels and activity have been identified. Given the intricacies of the Wg/Wnt pathway, the effect of these molecules may be context-dependent, and their roles can vary based on cellular conditions, presence of other signaling molecules, and specific tissue types. For Drosophila studies, some molecules might require validation in the specific organism as the effects observed in vertebrate systems might not always directly translate to invertebrate systems.
