C2 Antibody (E-7) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a kappa light chain antibody that detects C2 protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). anti-C2 antibody (E-7) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. C2 protein plays a crucial role in the complement system, which is essential for immune defense. C2 protein is involved in the classical pathway of complement activation, where cleavage into C2a and C2b fragments occurs, with C2a being responsible for binding to C3 convertase, thus facilitating pathogen opsonization and promoting inflammation. This process is vital for pathogen clearance and immune response initiation. C2 deficiency is the most prevalent deficiency in the classical complement pathway and is often associated with autoimmune diseases and increased susceptibility to bacterial infections. The N-terminal extracellular domain 1 of the complement C2 receptor inhibitory trispanning (CRIT) specifically binds to C2 and interacts with the C2a fragment, effectively blocking C2 cleavage and preventing classical pathway C3 convertase formation. This regulatory mechanism highlights C2′s importance in maintaining immune homeostasis and preventing excessive inflammation.
