    SEE ALSO...

SUMF1 Antibody (B-9) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects SUMF1 of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). SUMF1 (B-9) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. SUMF1, also known as sulfatase modifying factor 1 or FGE, is a crucial protein consisting of 374 amino acids that plays a vital role in the activation of sulfatases, which are enzymes responsible for removing sulfate residues from substrates through the hydrolysis of sulfate esters. The proper functioning of sulfatases depends on the presence of Cα-formylglycine (FGly), a unique amino acid generated post-translationally from cysteine residues by specific enzymes. SUMF1 is predominantly localized in the lumen of the endoplasmic reticulum and is expressed widely, with the highest levels found in the liver, kidney, and pancreas. SUMF1 can exist as a monomer, homodimer, or heterodimer (with SUMF2), and primarily functions to oxidize sulfatase cysteine residues to form the active FGly residue, thereby significantly enhancing sulfatase activity. Deficiencies in the SUMF1 gene can lead to multiple sulfatase deficiency (MSD), a complex disorder associated with various severe symptoms, including metachromatic leukodystrophy, mucopolysaccharidosis, chondrodysplasia punctata, hydrocephalus, ichthyosis, neurologic deterioration, and developmental delays, underscoring the importance of SUMF1 in human health.
